alsamixer says right at the top "M-Audio Audiophile 2496" so I'm pretty
sure it's looking at the right thing.

The problem is that turning up different sliders did not result in any
sound. There are also many choices and configurations of other things. I
played with it for a while, then decided rather than try every single
combination I would hope that someone could tell me how to get it working.

Question: does it work "on the fly"? I.e., should sound come out while
I'm running alsamixer, or do I have to quit it first?

Anyway I guess I'll install PlanetCCRMA.

As far as what FC3 installed, I really don't know what's going on...
during the install it reported that it was configuring the VIA chipset.
Also the gui interface for testing the sound card access the VIA too.
Then lspci doesn't report the Audiophile as present. However, alsa sees
it and uses it by default. Does this sound like a bug in the installer to
you?

Best,
Mike
