Like the crystal/cmi or the old soundblaster AWE64. On the other hand, the OPL3 synth is a digital FM synth and it has been fully reverse engineered to the bit, so 100% accurate software emulation is possible and exists. Opensource implementations could be used and adapted to be run as jack/alsa clients. These can be taken from MAME, DosBOX or DosEMU, for example. Cheers! Juan Linietsky
