Some soundcards, that I know, will let you record the OPL3 synth
individually without the need of using the master.. however this applies 
to the entire synth, not the individual channels. Like the crystal/cmi 
or the old soundblaster AWE64.

On the other hand, the OPL3 synth is a digital FM synth and it has been 
fully reverse engineered to the bit, so 100% accurate software emulation 
is possible and exists. Opensource implementations could be used and 
adapted to be run as jack/alsa clients. These can be taken from MAME, 
DosBOX or DosEMU, for example.
