This is not a "comparison" to other distrobs because SuSE is the only distrob I've ever used. I just wanted to say that it has allowed me to learn more about audio because it takes care of all the other types of computer related stuff (no hastle installing, easy internet setup...) so that I can just focus on audio. Of course, this is an "audio" mailing list, but I think that it's appropriate to mention how the no hassle approach that SuSE provides allows for learning of the other things that are important to (even) audio folks. Like learning how to be an administrator. This is not "off topic" for the reason that being a good administrator is important to moving forward and setting up really decent recording studios on linux. And SuSE has taken care of the things that I (don't care) to be an expert on. I don't know as much (as I should) about low latency patches and other important audio related subjects, but maybe this is because SuSE is set up pretty well for recording. I have had some problems in the past with xruns and such. It comes and goes and I've done a lot of tests to find out if it's hardware or software. I haven't been able to focus on (just simply) rooting it out because I've got my hands in so many audio projects. But it seems that audio works pretty well right out of the box. One other note worth putting in the article. SuSE offers a lot of audio programs. They are mostly outdated. But the important items are pretty updated (libaries, dependencies...) so that a person can download the newest version of an audio program and it usually installs without a problem. I would love to hear other people's experience with SuSE. Thanks, Rocco
