Interesting .. I sometimes have similar issues, but I'm pretty sure it's
only been when my machine was locking up (bad RAM issues) and the
alsasound init script didn't get a chance to shut down cleanly and do
it's alsactl store to save the settings. When I got the box back up I
would be surprised for a moment that the settings were where I left
them. But, your problem sounds like a different issue. Which version are
you using?

I usually just have jack running in full duplex, so I haven't seen
anything like that.
