Thanks. I'll try this idea.

Now if I only get my CD player fixed... And this is probably what I need
to do next. After all, this may be merely a poor recording, and the
clicks, to think of it, sound remarkably like clipping.

I tried this before buying the CD. The trick is, I am dealing with
rather rare music.
