I though the consensus was: 
M-Audio USB stuff : useless, forget it. 
Most other M-Audio kit is excellent.

Better than Creative Labs anyway!

It's taken me a while to get my DIO2448 (which has S/PDIF input only)
doing the right thing, but that's a bit non-standard as sound cards go.
