to my knowledge the Digital Stage project is focusing on a
desktop-client based on Jamulus as well as a web version. Both
(especially the web version) have significantly larger latency, which
may be a reason for a shift towards theater, a bit away from music.
ovbox is the "hardware" solution in the Digital Stage project, but it
looks like they removed all references to it from their website in favor
of their own development.
In that context: ovbox is and will always be free, both in terms of
freedom [*] and free beer, including the web services. It is based on
the work of others, mainly the zita-njbridge by Fons Adriaensen. It is
now also used in research, ensuring a continuous development.
