some useful background information.  It gets a bit rambling at times

Most of the discussion is about general audio-over-ethernet, and
audio-over-IP at that, which is layer 3 rather than layer 2 transport like
AVB uses.
Someone did provide a link to this driver and reported success:

The README note still has this info:
"Currently this implementation will create an alsa PCM device and connect
a single 8in/8out AVB stream to an AVB endpoint. The driver currently only
works with NICs based on the Intel's i210 chiptset."
