Thanks everyone. That looks pretty conclusive! The thing is, I'd
never even heard of OBS before. I prolly need to come from under my
rock more often :P
The downside with video editing and composing software is that the
manuals suck because everyone loves rather making video tutorials for
them, and I hate clawing my information together from scattered video
tutorials...
OBS is not hard to figure out... any more than any other sw. Good
documentation is always a boon for sure. But making good videos (like any
art) is a lot more than knowing how to use the tools. Having never read
any documentation or watched any video tutorial for OBS, I was able to
make videos. Studio mode comes pretty close to the standard analog video
switcher from my days at the TV station. Two screens, program and preview.
Set up the next shot in the preview and transition to it as the new
program.
Very much, a play with it till you figure it out kind of SW. For specific
knowledge a direct google (or other search) for that feature or task seems
to find others asking the same thing and finding answers. This seems
painful but really making good video after you know how will probably take
longer. If you have done live switching before (or even watched someone
else) it seems to cover anything you could ask for for live video
switching. As with just about anything that has both control and live
stuff, two screens is recomended, more if you also want to monitor extra
video sources...
