Maybe it isn't the hardware.  It wouldn't be the first time I've heard
of audio problems from Network Manager...  Maybe try Wicd instead?  I'm
using Wicd for networking on a Samsung laptop with a RME Babyface Pro,
and I've had no latency problems at all on Debian.
