Nowadays we even have arm-based things like http://bela.io/ that claims
a latency `as low as 100us`. I'm sure they have a different (probably
radical) technical solution for this. I wonder if normal x86 desktops
could try a similar path.


According to their explanation, Bela.io achieves 100us latency it using Xenomai Linux kernel extensions and Programming Realtime Unit (PRU) to "write straight to the hardware". I wonder if that's an option for us.
