Nexus 7 Tablet worth it for audio?

Greetings to all of you out there.

My brother donated me his nexus 7 (2012) tablet because he got an
ipad. I either want to use it as a tactile effects processor, or as a
midi controller sending sysex to a hardware synth.

I did some online research to come to the conclusion no android apps
are useful enough for me.

I know it's possible to get linux into the device, and I was wondering
if any of you have any experience on that. I don't want to get too
deep into troubleshooting this time and I was wondering if it's gonna
be worth the effort.
How is the hardware support? Can I plug it to my fast track pro card?
Is the touchscreen any good under linux? Is latency too high to be
usable live?

Another reason I'm asking here is because someone offered me to
exchange the tablet for an Ensoniq EPS (the 13-bit one). I don't want
a Facebook browsing gadget, and I already have a netbook for mobile
computing, so if you have any recommendations, don't refrain
yourselves. Otherwise I'm trading it.

Thanks for your attention.

Have yourselves a good week.

Fede
