oops... sorry for the empty message i just sent! :-P

anyways, hi iain! i've been doing this exact thing for years now. here's
the card you need (which ~replaces~ the cardbus one):

https://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/hdspe_expresscard.php

note that this card uses a standard firewire cable, which is much more
sturdy than the original cable.

i've used this card with my 1st-gen multiface on a couple of different
laptops, running a bunch of different linux distros, with no troubles.

It is also possible to use a PCMCIA to express card adapter and use the old PCMCIA card in the new slot (cheaper). I have done that and it works - it is very ugly and dangerous as the adapter is big and hangs from the side of the laptop. I don't have the adapter here to post details, maybe tomorrow from work...

Hi list,

I'm trying to find a way to use an RME Multiface mark I with an old RME
cardbus interface. My laptop doesn't have a cardbus slot but has an
ExpressCard slot. I've read old threads of people successfully using the
cardbus interface with a cardbus-ExpressCard adapter on Windows. Has
anyone done this on Linux? From what I read, what's needed is a an
adapter that requires no drivers.

Thanks,

Iain
