That, Rui, worked like a charm!  i thought such a thing might be the
case, but since i didn't make the machine, i just don't know where all
the buttons are.  i let the loop run for at least ten minutes, and the
map remained intact.

but would be interesting to know who or what is telling the wrong lines to qtractor while playback's rolling...

any clue about some other jack-transport/timebase application that is messing around clamping on 4/4 time-signatures ? maybe a jack-aware metronome? or any other sequencer or DAW? eg. hydrogen, rosegarden, musescore, muse, ardour,... whatever?
