That's probably the source of the "problem". The SM57 can sound very harsh on its own and you have to experiment a lot to find a good recording position (I'm sure you did). Different angles and distances can result in a totally different tone. In my experience, which isn't that extensive, I admit, a big condenser as a second mike can soften the tone considerably, but of course you have to watch out for phase cancellation then. I'm sure you know all this, though. Like I said, the harshness wasn't as pronounced with my monitor speakers, because the mid-bottom end came accross better. Something to watch out for during mastering when listening to the mix on as many different setups as possible. Chris
