Freewheel mode is a highly specialized thing, intended for offline (i.e. not throttled by audio data flowing to/from audio hardware) rendering of the entire JACK graph.

It used by (e.g.) Ardour for exporting (when Ardour is using JACK anyway; Ardour's other backends have a similar concept built in).

Freewheel mode is not something you use as a general thing.
