PCI doesn't suck. It is still the best place to put an audio interface.
USB sucks, Firewire is old. Is anything Thunderbolt out yet
that does ADAT to Thunderbolt with open source Linux drivers?
I predict that Thunderbolt will die.
Anyway, there are dozens of PCI and USB interfaces that support ADAT and are supported on Linux.
