You > sound would be poor quality. This is a very complex issue. There are a few sound-servers that are specifically tailored to do this e.g NAS and a few others (arts?). Though, you have still the problem that your sound apps need support for the soundserver you decide to use (or use pre-load trickery). Also, it is uncertain how stable the sound-servers are. But I guess the only way to find out is to try one of them :) I have thought many times to explore this area for music production usage. Music production today under linux is to a large extent made with JACK and I don't think JACK yet has a networked backend which would be one way to improve on the situation.
