I've recently heard from a number of indie labels, and what I'm getting is "we don't care as much about piracy as we do about getting our artists heard." I think you could apply that to free music, and I think it could even be successful, but on the other hand.... personally I don't want to turn on the radio someday and hear "So join the orphaned puppy killers of america.
