Well, this is proving difficult and a bit confusing: [root@localhost Documents]# ls alsa*.rpm alsa-driver-0.9.4-fr2.i386.rpm alsaplayer-0.99.75-fr1.i386.rpm alsa-lib-0.9.4-fr1.i386.rpm alsa-utils-0.9.4-fr1.i386.rpm [root@localhost Documents]# rpm -Uvh alsa-*.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] package alsa-utils-0.9.4-fr1 is already installed file /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf from install of alsa-lib-0.9.4-fr1 conflicts with file from package libalsa-data-0.9.2-5mdk file /usr/share/alsa/cards/CS46xx.conf from install of alsa-lib-0.9.4-fr1 conflicts with file from package libalsa-data-0.9.2-5mdk file /usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf from install of alsa-lib-0.9.4-fr1 conflicts with file from package libalsa-data-0.9.2-5mdk file /usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1724.conf from install of alsa-lib-0.9.4-fr1 conflicts with file from package libalsa-data-0.9.2-5mdk file /usr/lib/libasound.so.2.0.0 from install of alsa-lib-0.9.4-fr1 conflicts with file from package libalsa2-0.9.2-5mdk [root@localhost Documents]# rpm -e libalsa2-0.9.2-5mdk libalsa-data-0.9.2-5mdk error: removing these packages would break dependencies: libalsa2 is needed by alsaplayer-0.99.74-1mdk libalsa2 = 0.9.2 is needed by libalsa2-docs-0.9.2-5mdk alsa-lib >= 0.9.0 is needed by alsa-utils-0.9.4-fr1 libasound.so.2 is needed by perl-SDL-1.20.0-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by koffice-1.2.1-8mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libSDL1.2-1.2.5-5mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libsmpeg0.4-0.4.4-18mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libSDL_image1.2-1.2.2-4mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libSDL_net1.2-1.2.4-5mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by kdegames-3.1-11mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by toppler-0.96-8mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by pysol-4.81-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by xine-plugins-1-0.beta4.1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by xmms-more-vis-plugins-1.6.0-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libarts-1.1.0-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by kdebase-3.1-83mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libSDL_mixer1.2-1.2.4-5mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by lbreakout2-2.4-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by kdelibs-common-3.1-58mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by kdelibs-3.1-58mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by frozen-bubble-1.0.0-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by arts-1.1.0-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libjack0-0.66.3-030401.1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libao2-0.8.3-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libtse3_0-0.2.5-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by tse3-0.2.5-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by kdemultimedia-3.1-10mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by libavifile0.7-0.7.34-2plf libasound.so.2 is needed by ecasound-2.2.1-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by ecawave-0.6.0-2mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by ecamegapedal-0.4.1-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by vkeybd-0.1.12-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by alsaplayer-0.99.74-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by xmms-smpeg-0.3.5-1mdk libasound.so.2 is needed by alsa-utils-0.9.4-fr1 libasound.so.2(ALSA_0.9) is needed by alsa-utils-0.9.4-fr1 [root@localhost Documents]# I suspect that this is less scary than it appears... but it at least looks like installing from RPMs will break a whole lot of things. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, Mandrake only supplies RPMs up through ALSA 0.9.2 which I understand from earlier messages is terribly outdated in its USB-audio support. What's my next step?
