Thanks for that Dave, I guess there's no arguing with the author himself! I have heard/read that the book is/was very good, but time stands still for no man or book unfortunately. I have a good collection of expensive, outdated Linux books that were all wonderful in their day :-) Although I've played music for 30 years, and worked with Linux web servers/scripting/databases for 3 years, I've only just put 2 and 2 together and begun exploring Linux audio and sound. So I look forward to the 2nd Edition.
