Althogh I do have a Soundblaster in my machine, I actually prefer fluidsynth. Not because of the sound quality - where fluidsynth is still a bit challenged -, but because of the added flexibility a software-solution can provide. Using a Soundblaser card in a Jack-centric setup is at least a bit awkward, and using it inside my favourite soft-synth, Pd, is quite impossible.
