You might get a card with less input channels. 4 channels or even just
stereo might be enough. I mean, you're doing 'multi'track i.e. you can
record in several steps and mix that together with something like
ecasound. But if you want to record with 3 mics at once, you need 3
channels. This means, you need 4 channels as I don't know of a card
with just 3.

You obviously need midi input, which is nice anyways, but
you could also buy a usb-midi-cable. A soundcard with midi included is 
cheaper, though.

If you use more than stereo, you probably need a mixer (which is, why
I only have a 2-channel-card used via my hifi amp.)
