Ahh, you are quite right, sloppy reading on my part. "EMU10K1 MPU-401 
(UART)" is indeed the external port on the Live card. You need an 
external synth to get any sound out of that.

Either do as Tim suggests and load an internal softsynth of MusE and set 
the output to that or change the output port to one of the SB-Live synth 
channels and load a soundfont with sfxload.

As for your question Tim, I didn't quite follow what it was you didn't 
get to work?
