Sorry:  Use atomic_set, not atomic read,
seams like:
 +       atomic_set(&ms->mmiowb_pending, ms->nesting_count);

But you need still deal with these for atomic
struct mmiowb_state {
        u16     nesting_count;
        u16     mmiowb_pending;
};
