I believe it should be dropped and only the first two patches should be merged. If the SH maintainer is not responsive, then maybe Greg could take them as they remove cruft from core code. As for the whole "early device" debate, my take is that we'd be much better off making the device model available early, rather than trying to architect something that is simply papering over the issue.
