Serial console on Marvel with console=srm

I'm trying to make serial console work on an ES47. Apparently the way
this is supposed to work is by setting console to serial in SRM and
booting the kernel with console=srm [1].

My kernel hangs after printing "Using epoch = 2000". The same thing
was reported in 2010 [2]. The driver seems to have had a could of
races in it [3].

arch/alpha/kernel/srmcons.c wasn't touched between 2007 and 2012.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks,
Matt
