This depends on if it is updating grub. Your error is probably that boot has no more dusk space. If it is updating grub, I don't recommend that because if you reboot it will use the newest kernel, which can cause problems with addon drivers and the such Thanks Tom Callahan TESSCO Technologies Inc Office 410-229-1361 Cell 410-588-7605 E-mail: callahant@xxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: linux-admin-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: linux-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Fri May 12 07:02:46 2006 Subject: Yum kernel upgrade error Hi Admins, I have started getting the following error emailed to me from one of my servers running Fedora Core release 4 (Stentz): Error: Transaction Check Error: installing package kernel-2.6.16-1.2108_FC4 needs 2MB on the /boot filesystem I had a look and /boot has numerous kernels and System.map files. .. snip System.map-2.6.16-1.2096_FC4 System.map-2.6.16-1.2096_FC4smp System.map-2.6.16-1.2107_FC4 System.map-2.6.16-1.2107_FC4smp vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.1831_FC4smp vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.1833_FC4smp vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2069_FC4 vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2069_FC4smp vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2096_FC4 vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2096_FC4smp vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2107_FC4 vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2107_FC4smp It looks like yum has been updating the kernel on my system for some time. I wasn't sure if this was a wise idea? If other admins think this is okay, shall I just remove a few of the older kernel file and accompanying system.map to allow yum to update the kernel? Thanx.
