Has anybody used a DVD writer with linux, and if so what brand, and software? I read the cdrecord page and it says I can get a binary version for a DVD writer, but no source code. Also, has anyone used the sony writer that holds 8+ Gig of data?
Thanks,
Dave Kirkwood

Yes, I use the NEC 2500A, and it works splendid! You can use cdrecord for dvd-burning, yes. But the "original" choice for that would be growisofs, although I use the k3b interface for burning dvds. The new NEC supports dual-layer, but I have not tried that, nor the Sony model. - : send the line "unsubscribe linux-admin" in the body of a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html
I didn't even know about growisofs (which was already on my machine, and I'll start playing with it now that I know it's here), but I have successfully burned DVD-R disks with the dvd capable cdrecord binary (true, no source code, but it works well, and I am able to use the free key since I work at a school). I am using a Sony external USB drive, model # DRX-510UL.
