Re: Ethernet Interface

Shorter answer is yes. The driver used will be different.BUT, the good news is when you go through the install of the distro of Linux that you decide to use, the actual driver that will get used will most likely be installed automagically. Meaning, you might not have to worry about what driver is being used (although it might be usefull to know later on in life).

What brand NIC do you have? Since it's a Dell, I'm guessing either Intel, Cnet or Broadcom.

Hey Everyone,

I want to convert a window based desktop (DELL/Window
XP Professional) to a linux based station.

Do I need to get a new driver so that I can continue
to use the ethernet interface? The same ethernet
interface has been working pretty well under Window
XP. Yet, I am not sure whether I need new driver so
that the same card can be managed by Linux.

Thanks!
