If we keep patch 1 the code above is fine by me, if we have to drop patch 1 (IIRC by passing the parent pointer to pci_create_root_bus() we are affecting IA64 and X86 code, if that's acceptable that's fine by me) I do not think we can use the code above anymore, that's what my comment was all about because Bjorn was concerned about the fragility of the code setting the ACPI companion.
