DMI information for Zepto 6625WD and Penryn error report

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi!

Below is DMI information for the Zepto Znote 6625WD laptop. I've
attached my dmesg, lspci and cat /proc/cpuinfo with this mail.
Noteworthy is that the ACPI P-state driver clocks down the CPU from 2.5
Ghz to 2.4 Ghz. The CPU is a 2.5 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Penryn).

ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query honored via cmdline
ACPI: DMI System Vendor: Zepto
ACPI: DMI Product Name: Znote
ACPI: DMI Product Version: 6625WD
ACPI: DMI Board Name: Znote
ACPI: DMI BIOS Vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD
ACPI: DMI BIOS Date: 09/30/2007
ACPI: Please send DMI info above to linux-acpi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The BIOS date above seems wrong because the BIOS I have installed was
released 2008-01-02.

I also want to report that I get the exactly same error like Frank van
Maarseveen reported here:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/13/395

I also noted that VMware users of new Intel CPUs (Harpertown, 45nm?)
seems to get that error too:
http://communities.vmware.com/thread/122440

Intel has released microcode that should solve this issue, but the
latest microcode (2008-02-20) only delays the error by minutes. I manage
to reproduce this error easily by running a h264 encode using mencoder
for 5-15 minutes using both my cores. For me, the error seems to only
appear under heavy load by using the MMX/SSE-registers heavily.

I've carefully monitored the temperatures of both cores before the
machine get a MCE, and they don't reach over 63 C, so I think it's safe
to say it's not a problem caused by overheat.

Best regards,
Fredrik Smedberg
