Hi,

The source code for the Agere modem DSP software is only available as an i386 object code library. You might get a soft-modem port to work as a telephony interface on an ARM machine, but it won't work as an actual modem using the available software.

The AgereSystems/LSI agrsm code supports compiling of a agrmodem + agrserial driver pair.      options snd-hda-intel power_save=10
  to:
     options snd-hda-intel power_save=0
or the agrsm drivers will not function. For Ubuntu related systems this can be done with:
  $ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Please note- trying to load the modules on a OpenSuSE 11.2 system gives
an error about the module_version symbol. Using:
# modprobe --force agrmodem
# modprobe --force agrserial
is necessary to load the drivers, and does not appear to cause ill effects.


All of the above packages are dkms competent. This means that if your Linux distros dkms package is previously installed, if provides for future updates matching forthcoming kernels.

A UDEV device file system is not active.

The kernel was compiled with gcc version 4.7.2 and a compiler is not installed

linux-headers-3.6.11+ resources needed for compiling are not manifestly ready!

If compiling is necessary packages must be installed, providing:
   gcc-4.7  linux-headers-3.6.11+
Compressed files at: /usr/src/vpb-driver.tar.bz2


If a driver compilation fails, with message including some lack of some FileName.h (stdio.h for example), then Some additional kernel-header files need installation to /usr/include. The minimal additional packages are libc6-dev
and any of its dependents, under Ubuntu linux-libc-dev

If an alternate ethernet connection is available,
$  apt-get update
$  apt-get -s install linux-kernel-devel
will install needed packages.
