yes, I did read the documentation contained in SLMODEMD_gcc4.5_alsa1.0.24.tar.gz :-))

Yes, I tried that Init2 string
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 X3 &C1 &D2 +MS90
and monitored the phone line with a voltmeter and high impedance (crystal) earphones. Same result: The modem takes up the phone and hangs it up immediately, doesn't dial.
