Brian,

RE:  package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)

The package managers evidently are not aware that martian_modem will
work on x86_64 systems and has overly constrained the installation
requirements.
I will inform then.
But in the short terrn, I'll send you a martian_modem this evening.
