Gentlemen,

Well I've tried all of your suggestions. I keep getting the same message.
Command not found. So either I'm missing something fundamental in your
instructions, or the martian modem development simply will not work on my
system. Unfortunately, I'm left with little alternative but to give learning
Linux a miss and revert to a Windows-based system. I'd rather not, but what
else can I do? I must have Internet, and dial-up is all that's available
here.

Compile the martıan_dev on your 64 bıt system.
Your should be able to use avaılable pre-compıled (32 bıt)
martıan_modem wıth ıt, as ıt ıs a utılıty and not a drıver whıch must
be kernel and gcc compıler matched.  If not already ınstalled,
ınstallatıon of the 32 bıt lıbc6-dev package wıll be necessary to
support martıan_modem.
