I've got a Compaq desktop with an Agere Systems 0630 modem. My kernel is
2.6.31-21-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 24 07:28:27 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux. Is there any hope for a 64-bit compilation of the appropriate
drivers? I cannot find one at
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/ . Thank you.

Antonio,

Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for the prompt reply.

Based on your analysis, it appears that all of my current options are
weak ones. I don't wish to cripple my desktop machine (32-bit
reinstall) just to support my dial back-up capability. That seems to
mean that I must wait for agrsm support for 2.6.31 (if that ever
happens). I appreciate your offer to send me the module that you built
for Slax, but I think that I am too new to Linux to try using an
unfamiliar kernel and UI.

I guess if push comes to shove, I'll have to do what I did this past
week while I awaited delivery of my replacement DSL modem. I carried a
laptop to the nearest free wireless site. (At least I benefited from
higher bandwidth than I could get from dial-up.)

Let me know, please, if any other possibilities come to mind.

Best wishes,
Ron
