hello modem users !

the instructions on

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-eighth/msg03863.html

were smoothly applied to a recent debian distro SIDUX with 2-6-28 kernel,
with the package taken from http://linux.zsolttech.com/linmodem/agrsm/

it resulted in a nicely working softmodem on a IL1 laptop with
padlock-enabled VIA C-7 processor, see:
http://a110wiki.de/wiki/Modem_operation

to reproduce it should take 20 minutes to have a working modem in Linux.

performance is good, stability mileage may vary (unplugging phone line
crashes asf.) but it is by all means working.

great info base in this mailing list! Agere modem 11c1:1040 can be
brought to operation in recent distros and kernels!
great job by the contributors!
