Thanks for your reply.

My machine has a dual boot OS; vista and Jaunty.

I checked in device manager from vista, it says I'm using a modem from
CXT; I assume it was Conexant.

Therefore I search for linux driver for this type of modem and got
into linuxant.com; first installing alsa-driver-linuxant still not
working and then try to install the hsf modem driver still not
working.

Firstly, I refused to use the hsf modem driver because it says that I
have to pay for the full version, that's why I try to install
alsa-driver-linuxant; thought that could help me. Because using the
free version from linuxant only give me 14.4kbps.

Is there any alternative than linuxant that is free, therefore I could
use my modem fully(56kbps) for internet connection without have to pay
for modem drivers.
