For all users of Agere/LSI modems using the agrsm code packages,
there as yet have not been successful compiles of the agrsm code under
resources of the some coming 2.6.31 Ubuntu Karmic release
So if are planning do upgrade to Karmic, do save the modem drivers
functional under your current kernel.
Typically older kernel+modules will still be functional under a new release.
A Karmic linux-image-2.6.31 did install without problems on my base
Ubuntu Intrepid system
But gcc-4.4 was used in assembling these kernel+modules, as contrasted
to the gcc-4.3 for Intrepid.
Thus it was also necessary to install the several Karmic gcc-4.4
compiller related packages,
in order to test compiling with 2.6.31 resources.
Before starting to compile are a System with multiple gcc installed,
always check which compiler version is addressed by the /usr/bin/gcc
symbolic link:
$ ls -l /usr/bin/gcc*

Compiler versions used to assemble a kernel and its modules MUST match.

SuSE 11.2 should be out in the beginning of November- so I can test then
(live CDs don't have build sources on them).
