Terry,

You time would be best spent enjoying the modem success you have had
per earlier instructions.

Second to that is fine learning to use the COMMAND line.  I thus
started when I was your age.
Since you are using Ubuntu, I recommend that you just use the Ubuntu
install disk in Test/NoInstall mode.
It has all utiities you will need.

After a bootup, just open a console and get full Root priviledges with:
$ sudo su root
You want to practice using the command:  mount
the script browsers:  less  or more
the minimal editor: nano
