Terry, You time would be best spent enjoying the modem success you have had per earlier instructions. Second to that is fine learning to use the COMMAND line. I thus started when I was your age. Since you are using Ubuntu, I recommend that you just use the Ubuntu install disk in Test/NoInstall mode. It has all utiities you will need.
