Have you tried the file:

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/SLMODEMD_gcc4.3_alsa1.0.18.tar.gz

Do download it and replace this time with the above after you extract it.

After installation and replacing your current SLMODEMD with this one please run
$ sudo  slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa hw:0,6

Then open up another terminal and run
$ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
should scan and find modem port /dev/ttySL0

then it will remain to edit /etc/wvdial.conf and add appropriate
information like username, password and phone number.  Also add a line
carrier check = no.

It would be beneficial if you read Modem/DOCs/wvdial.txt to get you
setup. Report back with troubles you encounter.
