Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.3.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack
under Linux with:
$ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.3.tar.gz
and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with
command:
slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa modem:1
reporting dynamic creation of ports:
/dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N , with N some number
Read DOCs/Smartlink.txt and Modem/DOCs/YourSystem.txt for follow
through guidance.
Jacques
PS:
-Work as root (su)
-I strongly recommend that you use the wvdial package at least to reach
your first connection.
If necessary see http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/wvdial.html
-Do not stop the command slmodemd until you want to close the connection.
-In an other window, run wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf once for all to
configure wvdial for your modem.
Edit /etc/wvdial.conf to add your ISP data (remove leading ; , the
container brackets <> and the default contents, enter yours without the
brackets)
If not yet there, add anywhere one line
Carrier Check = no
Save /etc/wvdial.conf and exit.
-then run wvdial .
