Re: Need help with modem on a Compal FL92 Laptop running Ubuntu 8.10

slmodemd (not slmodem) MUST be kept running to maintain a PPP session.
The driver is relatively dumb, mostly providing access to the MUCH
smarter COMM functions of slmodemd. This is a Very Smart arrangement
because the driver which must be version matched with the kernel is
all Open Source, which all the Closed Source code with much more
matching tolerance is in the slmodemd helper.
