Hello There
I am trying to find a way of getting my dial up modem working. I am a
newcomer to
Linux and have been reading "how toos" for about 3 years now, but still
don't know much. The computer is a HP compaq nc6000.
I was able to figure out how to run the scanmodem tool and the file is
below.
I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me what that says and what
to do next :-)
Thanks, Nonni

complementary High Level support is through a Smartlink utility:

the package SLMODEMD_gcc4.2_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd.
Unpack under Linux with:\par

command:\par

The base of the UDEV device file system is: /dev/.udev\par
\par
The kernel was compiled with gcc version 4.3.2 and a compiler is not
installed\par
\par
linux-headers-2.6.27.7-9-default resources needed for compiling are not
manifestly ready!\par
The code linking utility, ld, may be needed and is provided in the binutils
package \par
\par
If compiling is necessary packages must be installed, providing:\par
\tab gcc-4.3 make kernel-source-2.6.27.7-9-default\par
\par
\par
If a driver compilation fails, with message including some lack of some
FileName.h (stdio.h for example), then\par
Some additional kernel-header files need installation to /usr/include. The
minimal additional packages are libc6-dev\par
and any of its dependents, under Ubuntu linux-libc-dev\par
\par
If an alternate ethernet connection is available,\par
$ apt-get update\par
$ apt-get -s install linux-kernel-devel\par
will install needed packages.\par
For Debian/Ubuntu related distributions, run the following command to
display the needed package list:\par
\par
Otherwise packages have to be found through http://packages.ubuntu.com\par
Once downloaded and transferred into a Linux partition,\par
they can be installed alltogether with:\par
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb\par

Checking pppd properties:\par

\par
To enable dialout without Root permission do:\par
