your simplest route is to update from your 2.6.24-16-generic kernel,
downloading the 2.6.24-19-generic package from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic
Under linux install with:
$ sudo dpkg -i linux-image*.deb
Then for the modem there are support packages at
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/:
agrsm-ubuntu8.04.1-2.6.24-19-generic.tar.gz with drivers
Under linux:
$ tar zxf agrsm.tar.gz
$ cd agrsm-ubuntu8.04.1-2.6.24-19-generic
$ sudo setup
Also download the agrsm-tools_0.0.1_all.deb package, It supports
driver autoloading, but does not itself contain drivers. Install with:
$ sudo dpkg - agrsm*.deb
