forwarding to this List doesnot have to be manually approved.

Fax is not implemented in the Martian package.   Alexei has updated
the older ltmodem + ltserial  pair to enable fax.  But a compile I
just tested under 2.6.27-9-generic failed (see below). So  a further
update is needed.   The compile is OK under 2.6.24-21-generic
So you could install the older  linux-image and linux-headers packages
for   2.6.24-21-generic  and test thereunder

    to do the cross compile below ,  I  did the minor Makefile  edit to:
