Configuring AC'97 softmodem on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex

Hi

I'm trying to send a fax with efax-gtk and fail:

The question is: is my modem properly configured?
If not, what should I do?





The modem is working in Windows XP with WinFax Pro and the same remote
fax number.



Output of "lspci | grep Modem":

What is already done:

1) package SLMODEMD_gcc4.2_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz downloaded from
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ 
and the original /usr/sbin/slmodemd overwritten with the supplied one.

    Output of "slmodemd -version":

2) added me to the uucp group beacause the /dev/pts/0 device is assigned
to that group:

If a driver compilation fails, with message including some lack of some FileName.h (stdio.h for example), then

and any of its dependents, under Ubuntu linux-libc-dev

If an alternate ethernet connection is available,
