Brady, You do not have a hsfmodem! scanModem reports that you need the martian driver: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/martian/martian-full-20080625.tar.gz Download it and also install the libc6-dev and linux-libc-dev packages to get it successfully running. Install packages with after you copied them to your home directory $ sudo dpkg -i *.deb After successfull installation of the above packages proceed to copy the martian-20080625.tar.gz file to your linux partition or home directory. Do the following fire up a terminal shell and do $ tar -zxvf martian-200806205.tar.gz $ cd martian-20080625/ $ make all $ sudo make install $ sudo modprobe martian_dev $ sudo modprobe martian_modem open a tab or open another terminal window and call upon wvdialconf to find /dev/ttySM0 $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf should find the modem port remove the ";" and add your ISP telephone number, username and password a line "Carrier Check = no" and an optional line "Stupid Mode = 1". Report back if you have questions or run into troubles.
