Instead of this, I installed sl-modem-daemon package (I am on Ubuntu 8.04). > But briefly, the modem is setup with command: > sudo slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa hw:0,6 > reporting dynamic creation of ports: > /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N , with N some number Yes, I did that (using USA as country because CUBA is not on the list) and yes, I got the following: # slmodemd -c USA --alsa hw:0,6 SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.9e-pre1 Sep 30 2007 00:07:03 symbolic link `/dev/ttySL0' -> `/dev/pts/5' created. modem `hw:0,6' created. TTY is `/dev/pts/5' Use `/dev/ttySL0' as modem device, Ctrl+C for termination. But if I try with minicom, (using /dev/ttySL0) then 'ata' it just tells me NO CARRIER ERROR without making any try of hang out or dialing up. Do you know if there is something wrong with the sl-modem-daemon package (version 2.9.10 +2.9.9d+e-pre2-5ubuntu4)? I don't have any slamr module :( -- Alejandro Ramos Encinosa Lic. en Ciencia de la Computación Universidad de La Habana
